Updating Dresser with Sofa Legs
There is always dressers out there that need a little love. I found this dresser at Habitat ReStore for $24. She had been sitting around for over a month and so I took it upon myself to make her beautiful again. She looked like she was born to have legs so I decided to give her legs!
Supplies needed:
- Jigsaw
- 2x6 and a 1x6 wood
- Nail gun
- Wood glue
- Sofa plates
- Sofa legs-the ones I bought were 4 inches in height and 4 inches in width.
Step 1. For this dresser the originally height was 32 and I wanted the total height to be 34 with 4 inch legs. The first thing you will need to do is to look at the base and assess if you need to cut down a skirt and add wood to create a stable base for the legs. For the dresser I needed to take off 2 inches off the skirt.
Step 2. I took off the dresser trim-this was pretty easy because it popped off right after I took all the screws out from the base skirt.
Step 3. To trim a portion of the skirt a jigsaw. In my case 2 inches
Step 4. I measured the amount of extra wood I would need to create a base for the legs. I needed 2x6 and a 1x6. I cut them down to 17 inches (base depth). I attached the wood for the base with wood glue and nails-to make my life easier I used a nail gun (if you don't have one regular nails work)
Step 5. I attached the sofa plates and legs and nailed the skirt trim back into place.
Waaaahlaaa! Now you have an updated dresser with beautiful legs.
